Description Morso 6140 Cast Iron Stove with Low Base

Morso 6140 Cast Iron Stove with Low Base

Morso 6140 is a freestanding cast iron stove from the Danish brand Morso with a nominal output of 5.8 kW, sized for rooms of up to 90 m². In this version the body sits on a low, closed base. Thermal efficiency is 79 %, energy class A.

The body weighs 100 kg and is made entirely of cast iron. Cast iron heats up more slowly than steel but keeps releasing heat long after the fire has burnt down — the room temperature does not swing between refuellings. A large panoramic pane gives a wide view of the firebox. The model meets Ecodesign requirements and the criteria of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.

Key features — Morso 6140

  • Nominal output 5.8 kW — heats up to 90 m²
  • Thermal efficiency 79 %, energy class A
  • Clean glass system — an air curtain washes the pane and limits soot build-up
  • Triple combustion system — more heat from the same amount of wood
  • Preheated combustion air
  • Removable ash pan — ash can be cleared without shutting the stove down for a day
  • External combustion air supply, 98 mm spigot — the stove does not draw air from the room
  • Door opens to the left; flue outlet top or rear, flue pipe Ø120 mm
  • Dimensions (W × H × D): 451 × 753 × 386 mm, weight 100 kg
  • Material: cast iron. Made in Denmark

Low base — how the stove looks in the room

The stove comes on a low, closed base. This is the most compact silhouette in the range and the stove takes up as little floor space as possible — a good choice if you store firewood outside the room and want the stove to stay discreet. A closed base does not collect dust the way an open log store does.

Is 5.8 kW enough for my house?

The model is rated for roughly 90 m² with standard insulation and a ceiling height of 2.5–2.7 m. In a poorly insulated building, one with large glazed areas or a higher ceiling, the real figure will be lower — in that case pick the next power class up. An oversized stove is just as troublesome, though: for most of the season it runs on a low flame, which soots up the glass and the flue faster.

Will it work in a house with heat recovery ventilation?

Yes. The stove has a factory external combustion air supply, so it does not draw air from the room and does not compete with mechanical ventilation for it. In an airtight building this is a condition of correct operation — without its own air supply, ventilation can reverse the flue draught.

What chimney and space does the stove need?

A flue of Ø120 mm, with the outlet at the top or rear. The stove measures 451 × 753 × 386 mm (W × H × D) and weighs 100 kg — check the load capacity of the floor before installation. Required clearances to walls and combustible materials are given in the manufacturer's manual, available in the documents section on this page.

What fuel should be used?

The fuel is seasoned hardwood with a moisture content of up to 20 %. Wet wood gives noticeably less heat, smokes up the glass and speeds up soot deposits in the flue. Chipboard, painted or impregnated timber and waste must not be burnt in this stove — they shorten the life of the cast iron and void the warranty.

Morso cast iron stoves carry a 10-year manufacturer's warranty. Your nearest representative will confirm availability and purchase terms.
