Morso 8143 Cast Iron Stove with Log Store
Morso 8143 is a freestanding cast iron stove from the Danish brand Morso with a nominal output of 6.3 kW, sized for rooms of up to 120 m². In this version the base holds a stack of firewood. Thermal efficiency is 80.5 %, energy class A+.
The body weighs 181 kg and is made entirely of cast iron. Cast iron heats up more slowly than steel but keeps releasing heat long after the fire has burnt down — the room temperature does not swing between refuellings. A large panoramic pane gives a wide view of the firebox. The model meets Ecodesign requirements.
Key features — Morso 8143
- Nominal output 6.3 kW — heats up to 120 m²
- Thermal efficiency 80.5 %, energy class A+

- Triple combustion system — more heat from the same amount of wood
- Preheated combustion air
- Removable ash pan — ash can be cleared without shutting the stove down for a day
- External combustion air supply, 98 mm spigot — the stove does not draw air from the room
- Door opens to the left; flue outlet top or rear, flue pipe Ø150 mm
- Dimensions (W × H × D): 530 × 1045 × 450 mm, weight 181 kg
- Material: cast iron. Made in Denmark
The log store in the base
The base holds a supply of firewood. The logs sit right below the firebox, within arm's reach, and dry further in the stove's heat — and wood a few percent drier means measurably more heat and less soot on the glass. A separate log basket next to the stove becomes unnecessary.
Is 6.3 kW enough for my house?
The model is rated for roughly 120 m² with standard insulation and a ceiling height of 2.5–2.7 m. In a poorly insulated building, one with large glazed areas or a higher ceiling, the real figure will be lower — in that case pick the next power class up. An oversized stove is just as troublesome, though: for most of the season it runs on a low flame, which soots up the glass and the flue faster.
Will it work in a house with heat recovery ventilation?
Yes. The stove has a factory external combustion air supply, so it does not draw air from the room and does not compete with mechanical ventilation for it. In an airtight building this is a condition of correct operation — without its own air supply, ventilation can reverse the flue draught.
What chimney and space does the stove need?
A flue of Ø150 mm, with the outlet at the top or rear. The stove measures 530 × 1045 × 450 mm (W × H × D) and weighs 181 kg — check the load capacity of the floor before installation. Required clearances to walls and combustible materials are given in the manufacturer's manual, available in the documents section on this page.
What fuel should be used?
The fuel is seasoned hardwood with a moisture content of up to 20 %. Wet wood gives noticeably less heat, smokes up the glass and speeds up soot deposits in the flue. Chipboard, painted or impregnated timber and waste must not be burnt in this stove — they shorten the life of the cast iron and void the warranty.
