Morso 7948 Three-Sided Cast Iron Stove on Pedestal
Morso 7948 is a three-sided freestanding cast iron stove from the Danish brand Morso with a nominal output of 7.3 kW, sized for rooms of up to 120 m². In this version the stove is mounted on a single central pedestal. Thermal efficiency is 79 %, energy class A.
The body weighs 150 kg and is made entirely of cast iron. Cast iron heats up more slowly than steel but keeps releasing heat long after the fire has burnt down — the room temperature does not swing between refuellings. Three-sided glazing — a front pane and two side panes — shows the fire from three directions, so the stove can also stand in the middle of a room. The model meets Ecodesign requirements and the criteria of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.

Pedestal version — the stove on a central base
The stove is mounted on a single central pedestal. The stove appears to float above the floor and the space around the base stays clear — easier to clean, and in a small room the mass does not overwhelm. This version works well wherever the floor around the stove stays visible: on boards, stone or a glass hearth plate.
Is 7.3 kW enough for my house?
The model is rated for roughly 120 m² with standard insulation and a ceiling height of 2.5–2.7 m. In a poorly insulated building, one with large glazed areas or a higher ceiling, the real figure will be lower — in that case pick the next power class up. An oversized stove is just as troublesome, though: for most of the season it runs on a low flame, which soots up the glass and the flue faster.
Will it work in a house with heat recovery ventilation?
Yes. The stove has a factory external combustion air supply, so it does not draw air from the room and does not compete with mechanical ventilation for it. The spigot is led out at the rear or underneath the body. In an airtight building this is a condition of correct operation — without its own air supply, ventilation can reverse the flue draught.
What chimney and space does the stove need?
A flue of Ø150 mm, with the outlet at the top or rear. The stove measures 504 × 1157 × 435 mm (W × H × D) and weighs 150 kg — check the load capacity of the floor before installation. Required clearances to walls and combustible materials are given in the manufacturer's manual, available in the documents section on this page.
What fuel should be used?
The fuel is seasoned hardwood with a moisture content of up to 20 %. Wet wood gives noticeably less heat, smokes up the glass and speeds up soot deposits in the flue. Chipboard, painted or impregnated timber and waste must not be burnt in this stove — they shorten the life of the cast iron and void the warranty.
