  • relatively low installation cost,
  • simple to operate,

Water jacket insert

In larger houses, a cast iron insert with a water jacket works well. Heat from the firebox is transferred to the water circulating in the central heating system, which feeds radiators or underfloor heating. In practice, such an insert functions like a wood-fired boiler.

Advantages of a water jacket:

  • even heating of the whole house,
  • integration with an existing central heating installation,
  • strong energy independence,
  • real savings on bills.

Can a house be heated with wood alone?

Yes — heating with wood is one of the most effective routes to energy independence, and more and more homeowners are turning to it as an alternative to gas and electricity. A few conditions need to be met, though:

  • space to store and season wood,
  • good-quality, dry fuel (hardwood, moisture ≤ 20%),
  • regular chimney maintenance and cleaning,
  • a correctly matched fireplace output.

What output should you choose for your floor area?
