Morso 1126 Cast Iron Stove on Wide Legs with Cooking Plate
Morso 1126 is a freestanding cast iron stove from the Danish brand Morso with a nominal output of 7.8 kW, sized for rooms of up to 135 m². In this version the body stands on wide legs and the top plate doubles as a cooking surface. Thermal efficiency is 80.7 %, energy class A+.
The body weighs 130 kg and is made entirely of cast iron. Cast iron heats up more slowly than steel but keeps releasing heat long after the fire has burnt down — the room temperature does not swing between refuellings. A flat front pane shows the firebox head-on. The model meets Ecodesign requirements.

The cooking plate
The top plate is made for cooking — you can boil water or prepare a meal on it, which is invaluable during a power cut. The stove stands on wide cast iron legs that broaden the footprint and give the loaded plate a stable footing.
Is 7.8 kW enough for my house?
The model is rated for roughly 135 m² with standard insulation and a ceiling height of 2.5–2.7 m. In a poorly insulated building, one with large glazed areas or a higher ceiling, the real figure will be lower — in that case pick the next power class up. An oversized stove is just as troublesome, though: for most of the season it runs on a low flame, which soots up the glass and the flue faster.
Will it work in a house with heat recovery ventilation?
The manufacturer states that this stove is suitable for use with heat recovery ventilation, but the model has no factory external air spigot — combustion air is taken from the room. In an airtight building with mechanical ventilation this means a separate air inlet to the room has to be provided. Agree the solution with your installer before buying.
What chimney and space does the stove need?
A flue of Ø150 mm, with the outlet at the top or rear. The stove measures 570 × 860 × 560 mm (W × H × D) and weighs 130 kg — check the load capacity of the floor before installation. Required clearances to walls and combustible materials are given in the manufacturer's manual, available in the documents section on this page.
What fuel should be used?
The fuel is seasoned hardwood with a moisture content of up to 20 %. Wet wood gives noticeably less heat, smokes up the glass and speeds up soot deposits in the flue. Chipboard, painted or impregnated timber and waste must not be burnt in this stove — they shorten the life of the cast iron and void the warranty.
